This pattern is my version of the well-known baetis vagans, or Iron Blue Dun, mayfly. Even though this bug has been re-named as baetis tricaudatus most anglers still refer to this mayfly as b. vagans as keeping up with the entomologists can be a full time job! Even though this mayfly is multi-brooded the best hatches occur in the Spring to Early Summer. Vagans prefers slower water and can hatch anytime during the day. Tied on a Daiichi 1190 (Tiemco 100) barbless, or a Daiichi 1180 barbed, chemically sharpened dry fly hook.
