I invented this crayfish imitation pattern in 2005 for smallmouth bass on the Huron River in southeast Michigan. A pleasant surprise is how effective this fly is on carp especially the olive, tan, and dark brown versions. River carp hit this fly on a dead drift while smallies seem to take predominantly when the fly tails up at the end of the drift. The hook shank is weighted so that the fly sinks while still being easy to cast with a 5 weight outfit. Tied on a Daiichi X220 X-Point chemically sharpened hook.
