This pattern is the invention of famous deer-hair tyer Chris Helm of Toledo, Ohio. Basically, the Helm's Pike is a classic Alt-style tarpon fly with an added estaz "head" and lots of flash added to the rear (wing in this case) of the fly. I know a number of Pike anglers who swear by this fly, especially in the early Spring just after ice-out. I've also had a number of customers use this fly in salt water with good success. Tied on a Daiichi X-Point, X-452, stainless steel, heavy duty saltwater hook.
