This Hexagenia limbata spinner is slightly modified from a pattern created by the legendary the Au Sable River tyers. While this fly is famous for fishing for big browns during the Hex hatch in northern Michigan, it is also a very effective for smallmouth bass in more southern climes. This fly is a must if you fish anywhere the big mayflies emerge. Tied on a Tiemco 5263 barbless, or a Daiichi 1720 barbed, chemically sharpened 3x long hook.
