Klinkhammer
The Klinkhammer, or the Klinkhammer Special, was invented by Hans van Klinken in 1984 as a grayling fly on Norway's Glomma River. While originally designed as a emerging caddis imitaition, the Klinkhammer is also an excellent mayfly attractor for trout. I tie these flies as their designer intended with slender, tapered bodies, an oversized hackle, and the correct hooks. Please note that only the hackle and the post should be dressed with floatant. This allows the abdomen and thorax of the fly to sit in or below the surface film. Tied on a Daiichi 1160 Klinkhammer chemically sharpened hook.
