Ephemerella subvaria or the Dark Hendrickson is one of the season’s first major mayfly hatches. In the Northeast and upper Midwest the hatch usually lasts for 2-3 weeks. This cripple is a great fly to use on those chilly, rainy, or windy Spring days when the duns are on the water’s surface for an extended period of time.
